    Season 2015 - 2016

The first season was all about colors. We painted many abstract shapes and movements with various technics: paints, inks, soft pastels, sprays and more.

We designed two custom title fonts: Nord and Sud, in reference to the theater's name. Nord and Sud are now part of our foundry catalog.

NORD and SUD are available at VJ Type.

    Season 2016 - 2017

In 2016, we invited French illustrator Yann Kebbi to work on the season theme: the feeling of surprise and astonishment. Kebbi draw 14 amazing illustrations, all showcased on his website.

For the season, we designed 2 new title fonts: Dida and Scali. We included Dida to VJ Type's permanent collection of fonts.

    DIDA is available VJ Type.

    Season 2017 - 2018

In 2017, we asked Hungarian born artist Anna Kövecses to draw the surroundings of Le Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord. You can perceive a scene at the next door café, the Canal Saint Martin, or just people passing by.

For this season, we designed the Traviata font and named it after the great Verdi's Opera, which was reinterpreted and played by Judith Chemla this same year.

TRAVIATA is available at VJ Type.

    Season 2018 - 2019

In 2018, we asked British artist Laurie Rollitt to draw graphic poems to represent this new season. The idea was to bring a new form to what can be a text of a play or a music score from an opera.

We designed the title font and temporarily named it Arcas. This font was never released.

    Season 2019-2020

For this season, we worked with material from the personal archives of Les Bouffes du Nord's general manager: black and white old photographs of theater comedians from the late 19th century. We transformed the photographs by manually adding paint and color. We used many mediums to create a chromatic scale, pigments, ink, watercolor…

The custom font from this year has been fully developed and publicly released. Jäger is part of VJ Type's catalog.

JÄGER is available on VJ Type
